Where is a suitable place to store Wine over a period of months or years?
I don’t have a cellar that I can use… would a rack in a floor kitchen cupboardn thats hardly used be ok?
Depends on the quality of The Wine. If it’s cheap ‘quaffing’ plonk then it’s not designed to be laid down anyway. It’s designed to be drunk within a year at most.
However, if it’s decent quality Wine And you’re actively looking to lay it down to age, then it needs to be put somewhere dark, cool (preferably about 12 degrees centigrade) with a constant, even temperature and humidity (again, not too humid and certainly not overly-dry). The only place that fulfills these criteria is a cellar!
A rack in a kitchen is a bad idea: there are too many fluctuations in temperature and humidity in a kitchen. If you need to find a place in the house, then a rack under the stairs is usually the best option: it’s dark, less prone to wild fluctuations in temperature and the wine can lay there undisturbed for as long as necessary.
